Designing and creating quality custom items for
the hunting enthusiast
Rim Walker LLC is a custom shop located on the Rims of Billings, MT. We love exploring in the out of doors, hunting, and fishing. Over the years we have experienced the joy of using highly functional and purposeful tools to get jobs done while there. For us the knife is at the top of the list.
All items (knives, leatherwork, cribbage boards) are hand made specifically for you. As we design, forge, hand stitch, or carve a part of us goes into every item. We are not a mass production shop. We relish the relationships we build while working with you on designing and ultimately creating your vision.
Rim Walker's goal is to build you items that will be passed down from generation to generation. Items that you will be proud to own and use in the field. If you would like a new hand forged knife, that is built to perform and last, then we are the right place. If you would like to have a new sheath built for your favorite knife, we are the right place. Or a one of a kind elk or deer antler cribbage board... that's right, we are the right place.
As long as you own a Rim Walker custom built item we will support and service that item... no cost to you, other than shipping. If the item is abused or beyond repair, due to abuse, we will be happy to re-profile or build you a new one at normal rates.

Process - Once we have discussed your vision - including renderings, functional requirements, and price estimates - and you would like to move forward: we will start by sizing the handle on the knife to your hand with a replicate of the handle from your vision. Or in the case of a sheath, will require your knife to create a template and for fitting. Every step in the process from that point on will be based on fit, form, function, and use. There will be decision points, in the build process, that we will be reaching out to you for input. That may include material selection, color combinations, or just double checking on an important step before moving forward.
Pricing - pricing for knives starts with a base price of $400. Leather sheaths start at $125 and kydex at $40. Leather holsters start at $175 and kydex at $40. Cribbage boards start at an average of $250. Then depending on the materials you choose, accessories, and/or the complexity of the build, the price will increase accordingly. We will provide options so that you will be able to make the best choice to fit your needs.
Build Time – is dependent on the number of builds we have currently active. However, we will communicate timelines with you through the entire process. In some instances, we have been more than willing to scrap a build and start over because it did not meet our own standards. Which would add some time, not cost, to the build and would be communicated. We want to insure that the final product we produce for you exceeds our expectations and yours. We are open for new builds.
Decision - It may be decided that we will not be able to bring your vision into reality through our shop. If we are aware of other smiths that can make that happen we are more than happy to share their information. Just because we may not be able to build your vision does not mean we do not want for it to become a reality.
High Carbon Steels forged, to create a directed and condensed grain structure, in our own processed charcoals while connected to an early 1900's blower from our family homestead. Only quality raw materials go into the making of our knives. We also have the ability to stabilize handle material to provide for a more unique or custom look.
Only the best goes into our sheaths and covers... Hermann Oak Grade A leather, tiger thread, with saddle stitching. Applying the best practices in the industry. To include prepping and water resistance application. Exotic inlays are our specialty.
Unique layout per antler to compliment it's form, four(4) or five(5) hole panels, options of two(2) or three(3) row runs, 61 or 121 hole runs, spent shell pegs, Elk or Deer antlers (we can change your trophy antler into a board also)... makes a great heirloom gift.
